Between & Beyond – 경계 너머
금속의 구조성과 유리의 투명성이 만나 기억과 감성을 형상화하다
“우리는 세상을 수많은 경계로 구분하며 살아간다.
안과 밖, 겉과 속, 몸과 정신, 보이는 것과 보이지 않는 것,물질과 영성. 그러나 그 경계들은 과연 명확하게 존재하는 것일까?”
이준석 작가의 작업이 시작되는 지점이다.
구리선은 단단한 재료이지만, 서로 얽히고 연결되면서 수많은 틈을 가진 유기적 구조를 만들어 낸다. 그것은 벽이 아니라 빛과 공기, 시간과 시선이 자유롭게 통과하는 하나의 막(Membrane)이다.
작품의 내부에 자리한 유리는 기억과 감정, 생명의 에너지, 보이지 않는 내면의 풍경을 상징한다. 외부의 형태는 내부를 감추지 않고, 틈 사이로 끊임없이 드러낸다. 빛은 안으로 스며들고 다시 밖으로 흘러나오며, 안과 밖은 서로를 비추고 순환한다.
작가의 조형은 이러한 생명의 구조를 닮아있다.
구리선은 세포와 혈관, 신경망, 균사와 잎맥처럼 서로 연결되며 하나의 유기적인 몸을 형성한다. 그 안의 빈 공간은 결핍이 아니라 가능성의 공간이며, 보이지 않는 것을 담아내는 또 하나의 존재의 형태이다.
《Between & Beyond》는 경계를 넘어가는 이야기가 아니다. 오히려 경계 그 자체를 다시 바라보는 이야기이다.
구리선이라는 물질을 통해 보이지 않는 생명의 흐름을 조형하고, 투과되는 자연광을 받아 공간과 시간에 따라 시시각각 변화하는 조형의 모습은 우리의 내면을 상징한다.

Where the Structural Nature of Metal Meets the Transparency of Glass, Giving Form to Memory and Emotion
“We live by dividing the world through countless boundaries:
inside and outside, surface and interior, body and mind, the visible and the invisible, matter and spirit.
But do these boundaries truly exist as clearly as we imagine?”
This is where the work of artist Lee Junseok begins.
Copper wire is a rigid material, yet as it intertwines and connects, it forms an organic structure filled with countless openings. Rather than becoming a wall, it functions as a membrane—a permeable boundary through which light, air, time, and the gaze can freely pass.
The glass positioned within the works symbolizes memory and emotion, the energy of life, and the invisible landscapes of the inner self. The outer structure does not conceal what lies within; instead, the interior continually reveals itself through the spaces between the wires. Light enters, passes through, and flows outward again, allowing inside and outside to reflect one another in an ongoing cycle.
The artist’s sculptural forms echo the structures of living organisms.
Like cells, blood vessels, neural networks, mycelial threads, and the veins of leaves, copper wires connect and intertwine to form a single organic body. The empty spaces within are not signs of absence, but spaces of possibility—another form of existence capable of containing that which cannot be seen.
Between & Beyond is not a story about crossing boundaries. Rather, it is an invitation to reconsider the very nature of boundaries themselves.
Through the physical materiality of copper wire, the artist gives form to the invisible flows of life. As natural light passes through the work, its appearance continually shifts with space and time. These ever-changing forms become a reflection of our own inner landscapes.
